A study published this week found that pregnant women who get enough vitamin D, will have a baby with the brain's ability better than pregnant women who were deficient in vitamin D.
Studies Research Center for Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, studied 1820 women and their children. As a result, women who had insufficient vitamin D intake during pregnancy tend to give birth to the ability of a brilliant brain.
While Eva Morales, researchers involved in the study, published in the journal Pediatrics, said that clinical recommendations related to the intake of vitamin D is uncertain.
Related study, Walker added that women may be at risk of vitamin D deficiency as overweight or obese, have dark skin, or stay in the low winter sunlight.
Not just for the brain
Lack of vitamin D can cause rickets in the fetus, a condition in which bones become fragile. As for pregnant women, can lead to osteomalacia or impaired bone pain and muscle weakness.
In addition to sunbathing, pregnant women also need to eat foods containing vitamin D such as margarine and milk. The best time to get the benefit of sunlight producing vitamin D is between 10:00 to 14:00.
In the UK, all pregnant women are required to take vitamin D supplements on a regular basis until the breastfeeding period. Therefore, exposure to sunlight in the country was not maximal. Additional supplements are needed as a precaution against a deficiency of bone disorders such as rickets in infants and children under five years of age.
To maximize the program, the Department of Health provides free supplements including vitamin D for pregnant mothers. Local authorities also provide vitamin drops for children to meet the nutritional needs of the body. Particularly in Indonesia, free vitamins can be obtained through local neighborhood health center or health center.
